The country ranks 58 in the world in term of real GDP and 4 in the Africa area.

The country enjoys a regular and steady growth supported by political stability.
Since the end of the 90s economic development is driven by a series of public initiative in different fields including development of energy and transport infrastructure, promotion of Morocco to attract foreign investors and tourists, development of technical education.
The development of infrastructure has supported the expansion of tourism (10 million of tourists in 2013 vs. 3 million in 1996) as well as industry (e.g. Renault factory near the new port of Tanger).

Industry represents a third of Moroccan GDP. It is mainly represented by agro industry, textile and construction.
New industry are currently expanding fast. Morocco is the 2nd car maker in Africa (146,842 units produced in 2013 / +42% versus 2012) after South Africa (265,527 / -3%). Aeronautics is anothoer fast growing industry with 50 companies implemented in Morocco.

It is a major contributor to GDP (8%) and the first source of international currencies. As a whole the sector employs 500,000 people and generates about USD 7.5 billion of revenue. Morocco enjoys a Mediterranean weather and a large seashore (Agadir) as well as a very rich cultural patrimony (including imperial cities of Fes, Marrakech, Meknes and Rabat ; Art Deco district in Casablanca) and is the home for international festivals and conferences. It is also promoting eco-tourism in South and mountain areas.

Finance Services:
Casablanca is the second financial place in Africa (after Johanesburg).
The banking sector is one the most developped on the continent and concentrated around few major actors which have expanded in the region. The largest Moroccan financial service group - Attijariwafa bank - has expanded its presence to 10 countries in the region to become one of the largest African banking group.

Infrastructure development:
Rural Electrification Program: initiated in 1995 the program moved rural the percentage of villages connected to electrical network to 97.2% in 2013 (14% in 1990).
Tanger Med Port: started in 2004 and inaugurated in 2007 on the African side of Gibraltar straight - one of the busiest sea route in the world.
Development of train network: the high speed train (TGV line) is the most important project. Planned for 2015, it will link Tanger in North with Casablanca, the economic capital, on the Atlantic coast, in 2015 reducing the time between the 2 cities from 5 hours to about 2 hours. In 2017 another will open linking Casablanca and Marrakech.
Extension and modernizations of airports: traffic up from 5.2 million in 2003 to 15.7 million in 2011.
Development of highway network (100 kms in 1990; more than 1,400 in 2011) as well as rural roads (54% of rural population linked to road network in 2005; 73% in 2011).
Development of irrigation systems to support agriculture output.

The country has the largest reserve of phosphate in the world. It is the 3rd producer globally and the 1st exporter.

The sector generates 17% of GDP and employs about 45% of working population.
